San Marcos has grown SUBSTANTIALLY in the last years.
While development does not always equal progress, change is the only consistent in life.
While many of you have heard of, attended and presented at the Festival Of Consciousness, some of you may not be familiar with this event. For me it represents all the best of what San Marcos has to offer if you are a curious, creative, seeker of knowledge and want a deeper connection to yourself and others in the community.
Here is how it all started...
The first Festival of Consciousness was created in 2009.
It came about after 40 days of silence in The Sun Course at Las Piramides del Ka, here in San Marcos. Chaty asked a question which was, "what is the invisible?"
I spent my afternoons walking to the Elephant Rock in the valley and pondering the questions we were given in the morning session. As I contemplated, I looked up on the hillside and a small boy about 12 carry a huge bag of coffee down the hill. It dawned on me,
the invisible is all that we do not see or pay attention to. When you order a coffee you are not thinking about those that planted the coffee, those that cared for the plants, picked the beans, carried them to be transported, peeled them, roasted them, packaged them and then sold them to the consumer. San Marcos is in fact a coffee growing community. Most often, consumers only complain if it takes more than a few minutes to arrive at the table and have no consciousness in the process it went through to arrive in their cup.
So, The idea came about to host a festival where people for a minute (or more specifically a weekend), could see the workings behind the the invisible going ons in town and indulge in short workshops that expand our awareness in health, education and the environment.
Those who have passed through or lived in San Marcos know it is a special place that attracts some very creative, wise, eccentric and gifted students and teachers. Part of the uniqueness of San Marcos is everyone here is a little strange. A huge majority of those who live here do not fit, or want to conform to the modern world in one way or another. We are all students and teachers in this wild ride, known as life. Learning is never finished.
There are so many fascinating things to explore, discover and experience. The Festival of Consciousness is an opportunity to engage in workshops, activities and ways of being to soothe your curiousity or encourage you to dive deeper into the various themes presented.
The majority of the presenters have spent many years living here at the lake and it is an opportunity to learn, share and connect with those who continue to live an authentic, holistic life.
So, come grow, be inspired, dabble in different practices for a weekend and see what aligns with who you are and want to become. Take practical tools, memories, mind expanding, heart felt actions into your daily life.
It is the facilitators and the participants which make the festival
such a rewarding experience so I hope to see you, HERE!
Come share your knowledge, love and smiles with us!
