Festival of Consciousness Closing comments
Mission accomplished, the 9th Festival of Consciousness is complete.
I am eternally grateful to all the wonderful people who have supported me through this and the last decade of festivals. Many memories and so many blessings have come from putting on the festival and I have learned so much. It was so beautiful to hear from a number of people how the Festival of Consciousness impacted and changed their lives and for that, I can’t be more grateful. If one seed had been planted I would have been happy yet it seems a garden has flourished and that makes me feel very proud, fulfilled and inspired to keep dreaming for positive change.
This year I did my first San Marcos town tour as part of the festival. It was incredible to see people who live and work in/ for the community shine as they explained what they do. From building walls from bottles stuffed with plastic, creating art from natural materials, painting murals on walls, creating a sustainable local coffee business, cooking food and drying food with solar energy, allowing kids to be kids through participation in a cultural arts program, feeding the most in need, offering a Waldorf education to local kids, planting tul in the lake to help fight pollution, offering natural birthing support and training to locals and and and so much more… It is so inspiring to see all the hard work that happens behind the scenes that quite often goes unnoticed. So happy to have been blessed enough to find this community. Thank you for being the change you want to see in the world.
People have been asking, “Is this really the last Festival of Consciousness?” At this moment I have to say, “yes, it is”. As nine is the number of birthing into something else, I feel it is a fitting number to finish on. The universe confirmed it by stealing two of our wonderful presenters, Hannah and Julia whose workshops were cancelled due to helping to bring a baby into the world. I will take that as a very strong sign that everything is perfect. My six year old son has already asked that I organise a festival for kids, families and the Earth next year and tonight asked if we could do a second one to help save the dogs on the streets… so who knows what will come.
Prior to the festival, I was asked “what quality of people attend the Festival of Consciousness?”
After initially swallowing my anger and frustration with the ignorance that comes with this question I can whole heartily respond by saying, the highest quality of people attend the Festival of Consciousness. Once a year I realise how many incredibly brilliant, talented, fun, loving, intelligent, open hearted people pass through this town. Generally I have the chance to meet some of them at the Holistic Cottage, one on one, yet I am continually mesmerized by the quantity and quality of people who attend and contribute to the magic of San Marcos.
As I personally suffer from superficial conversation anxiety, I love engaging with festival goers, they make communication seem so easy and authentic and it is amazing sharing personal stories, ideas and dreams. I am, in hindsight, thankful for either the hack that took my page down or Mercury being in retrograde that forced me not to be able to check and answer messages. I have always believed that face to face communication is so much more fulfilling and the few day technology detox left me feeling very present and quite relaxed. With no wifi, I also got to reminisce as to what the world is like when people put down their phones and just talk to each other.
